fill to 2 oz/60 mL with tap water

How exciting is that?!

Heads up: Ombrelle sunscreen for cheap

One of the amazing ladies at fashionism.org gave us other Canadians the heads up that Zellers has all Ombrelle sunscreen at 75% off - usually around $20, I picked up a few for $4 and change. Awesome.

What I wore: August 25, 2009 to go to the post office

Tibi silk wrap dress
Aerosoles pink suede sandals
Vintage lace slip
Hayden Harnett Alfie canvas bag

This dress is so funny; it looks pretty much solid yellow/green from a distance, but is pretty vivid close-up. Close-up of the print:

My favorite pictures and blurb

Fandamily
I'm putting together a photo album using Blurb - I'm finding it a super easy service to use, I think I'm in love! I'll take pictures whenever I get the order in. My friend who was taking pictures at the wedding accidentally formatted her camera disk before getting the pictures off, so I am doing a photo roundup among relatives and friends.

The grand event: wedding decor

The service was conducted in a little historical chapelAnd the reception was held in a big barn across the streetMy mother in law scoured thrift stores for antique lace tablecloths and green glass vases, and my sisters in law ordered wholesale lemons and limes. I borrowed mason jars and big paper lanterns that they had saved from their own weddings a few years ago.I ordered a bunch of different cakes from a bakery I love. My mom brought jelly beans, and the boys went and picked grape vines at the last minute and put them up everywhere. We had Southern style BBQ cooked in a big iron lung contraption, everything was eaten except for two drumsticks. My mom insisted on getting china and cutlery from a rental place; we got big handled farm style cutlery and square plates. I bought daisies from a florist.
After dinner the harsh barn lights were turned off; it was just paper lanterns and candles (this is me and my dad dancing). It thunder stormed all night and I felt so pocketed and peaceful in the barn; we danced until 4 in the morning and my dress was soaked to the knees with dirty rainwater and red wine.

June 28, 2009: what we wore to get married

I was so thankful that I hired a makeup artist. My skin was a complete disaster that day, and she did a really great job making me look more human less Toxic Avenger.
The hairdresser she works with didn't show up, so the makeup artist did my hair. It wasn't what I had asked for, but by the time she finished I only had 20 minutes to get to the church. Still had to paint my toes and get dressed - I ended up being 20 minutes late. Everyone assures me my hair looked a'right.
The week before I had discovered that my dress wouldn't zip up; it had to be taken in for last minute alterations and they put in this corset lacing. I had nightmares about it; I'd had a lace up dress as a prom dress and despised it. Truth be told, when I bought the dress a year before it was very snug and required two salesladies to forcibly zip up. But I'd thought - I could fit into it perfectly in a year. It was the first dress I tried on, and was at the Neiman Marcus Last Call shop, not a wedding shop. It was Carolina Herrera and the tag says it was made in 1991 - it was like it had been waiting for me all these years. I am still shocked that it was there.
Everyone was so wonderful helping me get ready, I miss my friends from out of town so much - it was hard to see them all for such a short time
The seamstress who fixed it up was a complete sweetheart and made little covered buttons and loops to bustle the train for free
New Hub looked fantastic. It was the most fun I've ever had on a single weekend.
Lots of people thought my shoes were funny, they are the sunshine aniline patent "Bowden" pumps from Stuart Weitzman
The ruby in my engagement ring was brought back from India by Hub's dad - the colour is called "Pigeon's Blood"; Hub and I had a wedding band designed to match and I love it. Red is my favourite colour.

Thrift find: Pink $2.50 Moschino boucle wool blazer

Suffice to say that I was thrilled to see this on the reject change room rack at the Value Village 50% off sale. I love this jacket, it fits well, and it makes me feel expensive because at one time it was expensive. 100% wool!
50% off of the tag price
There is a small tear on one of the back seams (1" long) that I didn't notice till I brought her home:
I'm going to take her into the amazing seamstress who fixed my wedding dress in a crunch and get her to reorganize the threads and patch 'er up. I'll take pictures of the finished product!
